One summer in the mid-70s, while fishing with Lynn Martin, I made up this song. We'd been fishing out of Fort Bragg, Eureka and then on up the Oregon Coast, and spending just enough days on the ocean to pay for our time in town where the whiskey was cheap, and the women were free. We went offshore albacore fishing and stayed out for two LONG weeks. To boot, I made precious little and dreamed the whole time about returning to the near-shore area where we could do what I loved most: Fishing Salmon. Upon our return, I made up the chorus to this song, and the verses followed in due course.

It's a signature song and was widely popular for many seasons.
